Finding an electrician to carry out electrical work in your home

If you need any electrical work carrying out in your home then you need to be sure that you use the right person or company for the job. Although there is no legal requirement to become an electrician, certain jobs do require the person to have an accreditation. You may want to check that the person has valid insurance that would cover them in case anything they did went wrong. You should also try and find out about the experience they have and how long they have been doing the job as often this is very important.

Every so often there is a new edition released which has the latest information on regulations regarding electrical wiring. Even if the electrician hasn’t yet completed their course, they should still be aware of the changes that have been introduced and ensure that any work they carry out adheres to it.

If you have a trades person working in your house then try not to go out of the property and leave them on their own. If you do have to do this then try and only give them access to the areas of the home they need unless you have known them a while and can trust them. Some people even set up CCTV to allow them to keep an eye on what’s going on but you should tell the person that you have CCTV recording.
